    The route can feel much wilder than its distance suggests, with some uneven and boggy sections after wet weather. It’s a great choice for energetic dogs who enjoy a bit of a climb. Nicky Nook is also a recognised Forest of Bowland walking route, with local walking guidance recommending dogs on leads.

Dunsop Bridge itself is a lovely place to stop for a drink or bite to eat afterwards, making this an easy walk to build into a dog-friendly day out.     It’s a much more demanding day out than the shorter valley walks, with rough and potentially boggy sections that can become particularly challenging after wet weather. There’s little in the way of facilities once you’re out on the moors, so pack plenty of water and snacks for both of you.

    Ward’s Stone is Lancashire’s second-highest hill and routes to it are best suited to fit walkers and dogs accustomed to longer fell days.
