Walk this way on National Walking Day with a Walk Inn Break

Combining the tranquillity of scenic walks with the comfort of cosy accommodations, The Inn Collection Group’s Walk Inn Breaks package is the perfect break to book as the UK marks National Walking Day.

Considered one of the easiest ways to stay fit and healthy, walking has been proven effective in preventing many illnesses including diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease, with only as little as 30 minutes a day.

First launched in 2021 in response to demand for outdoor activities, Walk Inn Breaks is a package that offers two-night bed and breakfast stays that celebrate the nation’s love for walking – and its fondness for the pub.

Endorsed in the past by Julia Bradbury and Cumbria’s celebrity Springer Spaniels Max, Paddy and Harry, Walk Inn Breaks are available from April to October across 30 inns found in a variety of picturesque settings in northern England and Wales.

A host of added extras elevate these self-guided walking breaks with dinner at the inn on the first night providing a tasty start, whilst a hearty breakfast is the perfect way to fuel up for a day of explorations.

Walking the first mile of the day briskly in 15 minutes can burn the same number of calories as jogging the same distance in eight and a half minutes and with plenty of miles easily accessible from the front doors of the inns, it’s easy to get that kick start in.

Getting out and about early brings additional benefits by firing up the body’s natural circadian rhythm and with breakfast available from 07:30, an early start is easy to enjoy.

For those whose perfect stroll means getting out into the beauty of nature, maps from walking-books.com highlight the best walks and trails in the area, whilst for those keen to experience the pulse of vibrant towns and cities can tap into the expert local knowledge of the teams at the inn.

With the clocks now set to British Summer Time and longer days to enjoy, getting out into the stunning locations where a Walk Inn Break can be enjoyed helps in getting a dose of vitamin D from natural light, helping to regulate melatonin production.

Appropriately having had that canine seal of approval, guests checking in with their four-legged friends see the usual overnight dog charges (£15 per dog) waived, meaning all members of the household can make the most of being in the great outdoors.

With a good walk known to boost mood, increase energy levels and improve sleep quality, the well-appointed rooms at the inns are ideal for those on a Walk Inn Break to make the most of that benefit adding to the sense of relaxation, rejuvenation, and exploration from their getaway.

As in 2023, the rapid expansion of The Inn Collection Group’s estate means there are beautiful new properties and locations to be discovered, with Offshore, The Ripon Inn, The Tynemouth Castle Inn and The Ullswater Inn all offering Walk Inn Breaks for the first time.

These new-look establishments open the Fylde and North Tyneside coasts, the UK’s third smallest city and the Patterdale Valley to intrepid explorers, in gorgeously renovated venues with a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.

Having generated almost 7,000 room nights in 2023 and more than £1m in revenues there seems to be no end to the appetite for active breaks in beautiful surroundings, something welcomed by The Inn Collection Group’s rooms director Kate Bentley.

As the first guests checked in on 2024’s package, Bentley said: “Our Walk Inn breaks have been encouraging people to discover new places and scenery that is literally on the doorstep of our inns for three seasons now and we can see that they are as popular as ever.

“We have such a diverse collection of pubs in beautiful locations – whether that’s on the seafront in Northumberland, close to vast moors in North Yorkshire or surrounded by magnificent fells in the Lakes – that there is something to appeal to everyone.

“One thing they all have in common is their access to an array of walking routes that are suitable for all ages and abilities meaning everyone from the most accomplished hiker to those who enjoy a leisurely stroll.

“With many new inns to enjoy offering new locations to explore, The Inn Collection Group is looking forward to another busy summer through Walk Inn Breaks.”
