Windermere Marathon - 14th June 2026
Starting at the Waterhead at Ambleside and ending in Brockhole, the Windermere Marathon will take you round the perimeter of stunning Lake Windermere, filled with hilly inclines and scenic views. This is one of the most popular running events in Windermere and is not one to miss out on if you love endurance events!
Lake District Ultra Challenge - 6-7th June 2026
Ever wanted to do an ultra-marathon with a difference? The 100km Lake District Ultra Challenge is the ultimate long-distance trail, attracting endurance athletes as they trek mountain trails and trail through iconic towns including Rydal, Levens and Kendal. If you want to work your way up to the challenging 100km route, you can sign up instead for the alternative 25km or 50km which they have events for the day prior.
Great North Swim - 12-14th June 2026
Why not try open water swimming in the best place to do it - the Lake District! This open water swim event is held on Lake Windermere and has a variety of distances to choose from - from 250m all the way up to 10km, meaning ages from 8+ can get involved in the action too! There's no better place to try lake swimming in one of the UK's biggest open water swim events.
Helvellyn Triathlon - 6th September 2026
Triathlons can be challenging at the best of times, but the Helvellyn Triathlon, set amongst the rolling fells and steep scrambles, takes it to a whole new level! This epic sporting event is one of the toughest triathlons in the UK.
Get ready to swim in the waters of Ullswater Lake, bike up to the top of Kirkstone Pass, and run up to the Helvellyn summit - reaching heights of 3,118ft! Registration closes on the 4th September for the 2026 event, so if you're brave enough to tackle this challenge, what are you waiting for?
Chill Swim - 20th June, 11th July & 5th September 2026
Hosted in three of the Lake District's best-loved lakes, Chill Swim's passion for open water swimming has turned into an annual event consisting of three separate swims across Coniston (20th June), Ullswater (11th July) and Windermere (5th September). The races can be booked separately, or complete all three to earn the Triple Crown!
