Bookings are now open for The Wordsworth, as the much-loved Lake District property prepares to reopen following a full refurbishment and the next chapter in its transformation.
Located in the heart of Grasmere, the landmark inn is currently undergoing a comprehensive redevelopment programme that will retain its character and charm while elevating the guest experience, reflecting The Inn Collection Group’s continued focus on creating pub-with-rooms stays in some of the UK’s most sought-after locations. The first guests will be welcomed from November 2026, with bookings now live for stays from this date onwards, meaning visitors will also be able to enjoy Christmas celebrations at the newly transformed venue for the first time.
Once complete, The Wordsworth will offer 56 beautifully designed bedrooms, increased from 38, giving guests a wider choice of accommodation in this iconic Lake District setting. Room types will include Double or Twin rooms, Classic Double or Twin rooms, Accessible Double rooms, Suite Double rooms with sofa beds for additional space and comfort, and Superior Double or Twin rooms with terraces, offering stunning views across Grasmere and the surrounding fells.
Designed to be a true all-day destination, The Wordsworth will feature 196 internal and 130 external covers, creating a welcoming space for both residents and walk-in guests alike. With all-day dining and drinks available, the inn will be perfectly placed as a relaxed spot in one of the most picturesque locations in the Lake District. Guests will also be able to enjoy an extremely large beer garden set within the grounds, offering a peaceful setting for true relaxation in the heart of the village. Inside, cosy open log fires in the lobby will ensure a warm welcome during colder evenings, creating a snug and inviting atmosphere throughout the year.
Collaborating with Focus Architecture + Surveying, the full design team includes JGS Consulting, DPP Planning, BXB Interiors, Sine Consulting, Northpoint Consulting, Adelphi Consulting Engineers, CNG Foodservice Equipment, Mountfair Consultancy and Bluekeep Building Control. The works focus on enhancing an already much-loved destination, improving comfort and atmosphere while staying true to the building’s long-standing connection with Grasmere and its landscape.
The reopening is also expected to provide a significant boost to local employment, with approximately 45 new jobs being created across a wide range of roles, from front of house positions through to head chef opportunities. The Wordsworth will offer career paths for those taking their first step into hospitality, as well as experienced professionals looking to progress their careers within The Inn Collection Group. Recruitment for senior management positions is already underway, with additional team member roles set to be released over the coming months, which all can be found on The Inn Collection Group’s website.
Commenting on bookings opening, Head of Projects Michael Coulthard said: “We’re delighted to open bookings for The Wordsworth ahead of its reopening later this year. This is a really special site for us in an incredible location, and the refurbishment is about carefully enhancing everything people already love about this iconic site.
“The increase in bedrooms, the improved public spaces, and the addition of a large beer garden all help us make the most of the setting, while the internal layout ensures it will be a welcoming space for both residents and visitors passing through Grasmere.
“We’re also really pleased that the reopening will create around 45 new jobs for the local area across a variety of roles. Hospitality is all about people, and we’re looking forward to building a fantastic team ready to welcome guests for the festive season and beyond.
“It will still feel like a pub with rooms at heart, but with a more elevated finish that reflects both the location and the expectations of today’s guests.”
The refurbishment forms part of The Inn Collection Group’s continued investment across the Lake District, strengthening its presence in key walking and leisure destinations while staying true to its ethos of great food, great drink and great stays in standout locations.
