In celebration of the 70th anniversary of Donald Campbell’s first World Water Speed Record, on the 23rd July 2025 the legendary hydroplane, the Bluebird K7, will return to Ullswater in Cumbria with the support of The Inn Collection Group.

To mark the date, the Ruskin Museum will display the Bluebird K7 at Glenridding Pier, Ullswater, in collaboration with The Inn Collection Group, Ullswater Steamers, and Lake District Estates. The free event is open to the public with the hydroplane on display from 09:00 to 15:00.

This July marks 70 years since the achievement when Donald Campbell took to Ullswater to follow in his father’s footsteps as he set the World Water Speed Record reaching a speed of 202.32 mph.

Louise Harris, Head of Marketing for The Inn Collection Group, said: “The return of the Bluebird K7 to Ullswater is a momentous occasion. We are delighted to support the teams at the Ruskin Museum and Ullswater ‘Steamers’ as they bring the Bluebird back to the lake for this incredible celebration. The event is sure to draw interest to this beautiful region and show what we have on offer here in the Lake District. We can’t wait to see everyone at The Ullswater Inn to celebrate this amazing feat together.”

From the 24 July – 5 November, the Bluebird K7 will be on display for visitors at The Ruskin Museum’s Bluebird Wing. Find out more below.
