The dramatic scenery, the sound of cascading waterfalls, and the warm welcome that makes every stay in Snowdonia feel so special. For our next instalment of Postcards from The Inns, we’re sharing a story from Janette and Peter, who enjoyed a memorable getaway at The Swallow Falls Inn. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and some of North Wales’ most iconic natural beauty, their trip was filled with scenic walks, relaxing moments, and the kind of experiences that leave you already planning your next visit before you’ve even headed home.
25 Years Later
This was our first visit to the area in over 25 years and we couldn’t have picked a more ideal hotel and location for our two night break. Just as we arrived we noticed that the Swallow Falls Inn has a plentiful car park that is completely free for guests, which is extremely relieving to find out we would not have to pay extra. Right from onset we felt at ease in the hotel, and we were impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of all the members of staff we met.
Our room was quietly peaceful and incredibly spacious, even having views towards the Falls. We had our evening meal in the hotel and were pleased by the variety of choice on offer. I chose the traditional fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce and we were absolutely not disappointed! Afterwards, we treated ourselves to a delicious croissant and bread and butter pudding for dessert. In the morning there was a good choice of hot and cold dishes for breakfast – but who could resist the full Welsh breakfast? Not us anyway.
Day One: Zip World!
For our first adventure, we had booked a morning ride on the Forest Coaster at Zip World, just a short distance from Betws-y-Coed, which was a great deal of fun. Originally, I wasn’t so keen, but I took the bull by the horns and gave it ago, to which I found it to be extremely thrilling and enticing.
Following this, and a coffee from Zip World, we headed into the stunning town of Betws-y-Coed for a look around. This beautiful place has not lost it’s essence at all over time and still remains unspoiled, whilst having an interesting range of accommodation, shops, and restaurants.
Local delights
For lunch, we bought some food from a local store and had a picnic by the river next to the Pont y Pair. A gorgeous spot. Later on, we decided to go back into town for our evening meal to try the wood fired pizzas at Hangin’ Pizzaria – intensely tasty but be prepared to wait as it can be busy. After this we headed back to the Inn for drinks and a chat, we would like to thank the staff for making our stay really enjoyable and comfortable.
Day Two: Down to the falls
Finally, for our last morning we had decided to go for the delicious cooked breakfast again at the Inn. We found the vegetarian sausages to be great too. After checking out we visited the Swallow Falls, we had almost forgotten how beautiful they are. It was such a beautiful and romantic experience.
Top Tip: If possible, visit the Swallow Falls as early in the day as you can to enjoy this breath-taking atmosphere before too many people arrive. This way, you get the opportunity to take some good photos which incapsulate the magnificence of the Falls and you can enjoy the views. When is our next visit?
