After joining The Inn Collection Group at the end of 2022, this February half-term offers the perfect excuse to sample the delights of the Midland Hotel in Morecambe, with the Baylight’23 festival shining across the promenade of the Lancashire sea-side town.
A brand-new, free event running for three days (February 16 – 18) the Baylight’23 art trail comprises 17 interactive installations developed by artists from around the world and will offer fantastic opportunities for photos and social media sharing.
Many of the exhibits reflect or symbolise the beauty of Morecambe Bay’s environment and, with a rising tide in the evenings, the installations will be reflected in the water.
Running the length of the seafront in Morecambe, three of the installations are located within the immediate vicinity of the Midland Hotel, providing guests with the perfect starting off point.
Illuminated from 6:00pm to 10:00pm each evening, Friday’s display kicks off in celebratory style with a community lantern parade lead by local street band Baybeat making its way along the promenade to the Midland Hotel.
After arriving, Samba Espirito drumming band will take over from Baybeat with a half-hour performance that will be handily placed to the Midland’s Rotunda Bar for those looking for some well-earned refreshments.
An internationally renowned art-deco building in the Streamline Moderne style, the Midland Hotel is a grade 2 listed structure and was built in 1933 by the London Midland & Scottish Railway.
Designed by architect Oliver Hill to compliment the curve of the promenade on Morecambe Bay with bedrooms that offer magnificent views over the sprawling sands, it is perfectly situated to enjoy both the seaside or explore further and head into the Lake District.
Rooms at the Midland Hotel are available from £134.10* this weekend on a bed and breakfast tariff based on two people sharing,
