Rydal Mount & Gardens
Discover simply breathtaking views on Lake Windermere.
Rydal Mount lies between Ambleside and Grasmere and commands glorious views of Windermere, Rydal Water and the surrounding fells. It was William Wordsworth’s best loved family home for the greater part of his life from 1813 to his death in 1850, at the age of 80.
Here he wrote many of his poems and revised and improved much of his earlier works including I wandered Lonely as a Cloud, The Prelude and the famous Daffodils poem. One of England’s finest poets, he went on to be Poet Laureate to Queen Victoria.
